Here is found the working out of a great grey mistake! (this is a failure story. ..parts of it are not pretty. for those of you with weak constitutions, do not read further! just read the end! it's happy!)
i had some dark-silver-grey fabric (heavy, but shiny, very Rivendell/chase dress-ish) and a light gossamer-like silver shiny fabric that was almost white-silver. so, with a pattern i was already gifted enough to have (Simplicity 9891), i cut out an elven dress. princess seams, big cowlneck, oh-so-long drapey sleeves. only the fabric was a hint too small. so i cut it a little smaller than i normally would. and the sleeves won't set on the dress now. so i have a beautiful grey dress with a silver cowl neck and it looks so gorgeous, but i can't get the sleeves on it properly so i can actually get my arms in! *groans with embarrassment* so i'm going to try to fix all that.
this page is chronicle that fixage, and hopefully i'll be able to get it done pretty soon. (i leave for college in a week, so i need to work fast!) at this point, the only problem is with the sleeves, the rest of the dress fits well. ANY suggestions would greatly be appreciated!
I've gotten it pretty well solved, in one way. you smart people are welcome to give new suggestions!
Since i got the sleeves on and wearable, and i'm in the process of hemming the thing, my next step will be to add a lace overlay to the dress. most likely not all the way over the sleeves though. i dunno. maybe? i'm thinking about raiding the curtains dept. and buying some inexpensive and durable lace to make a loose overdress. i'll definitely add stuff about that when i get it going (: fortunately, that won't take too much sewing, so i'll probably be able to do most of it by hand.
